Google decides who gets called. Reviews are how you get to the top of that list.

When someone searches "plumber near me" or "landscaper in [town]", Google shows a map with a shortlist of local businesses - usually just three. This is called the local pack, and it sits above everything else on the page. Most people never scroll past it.

Your Google Business Profile is your entry in that list - your name, number, star rating, and reviews. Google decides who appears in the top three using three factors: distance, relevance, and prominence.

Prominence is where reviews come in. Google's own guidance states that review count and recency directly influence your local ranking. The more reviews you have, and the more recent they are, the higher you rank. Your website, your years in business, your actual quality of work - none of that matters to Google if your review count is thin.

1
Review count outweighs star rating for ranking

A business with 45 reviews at 4.7 stars will rank above one with 6 reviews at 5.0 stars. Google trusts volume.

2
Recency matters as much as total count

Reviews from two years ago carry less weight than recent ones. Google wants to see that customers are still happy now. A steady stream of new reviews is more powerful than a one-off burst.

3
Most calls come from the top three listings - nowhere else

If you're not in the local pack, you're largely invisible to new customers searching Google. Reviews are the most controllable way to get there and stay there.

You finish a job. The customer is delighted. You never hear from them again on Google.

They meant to leave a review. They probably said they would. But they got home, got busy, and it slipped their mind. That's not their fault - it's just how it works. Without a prompt, most people don't follow through.

Meanwhile, the business two streets over - you know the one - has somehow accumulated 60 reviews on Google. He's in the top three results. He's getting the calls. Not because he does better work than you. Because he asks.

  • A competitor with more reviews ranks above you - even if their work isn't as good
  • Happy customers mean to leave a review but forget within days
  • Asking face-to-face at the end of a job feels uncomfortable and rarely works
  • Without a system, it never gets done consistently

Most tradespeople already rely on word of mouth. Reviews are word of mouth that never disappears.

When a happy customer tells a neighbour about you, that's one person who might call. When that same customer leaves a Google review, it works for you permanently - visible to thousands, boosting your ranking, building trust with every new person who finds you.

Word of mouth

Powerful but passive. You can't control it, predict it, or scale it. One happy customer tells one person. Or none.

Uncontrollable

Checkatrade / MyBuilder

Good for leads but you pay per lead or per month, compete on price, and build their platform - not yours.

Expensive per job

Paid ads

Works while you're paying. Stop paying, stop getting calls. No compounding effect. High cost per click in trades.

Stops when you do

Google reviews

Each review is permanent. They compound - 5 a month becomes 60 a year. They improve your ranking and they cost nothing per lead. The more you have, the more you get.

Compounds over time

Reviews Chaser is the system that turns every completed job into a permanent, public recommendation on Google - automatically, without you having to remember to ask.

Reviews Chaser asks every customer, every time - automatically, at the right moment.

After every job, Reviews Chaser sends a personalised follow-up email to your customer - when the experience is still fresh and they're most likely to respond. You don't have to remember. You don't have to ask face-to-face. It just happens.

Over time, your Google listing grows. Your ranking improves. New customers find you before they find your competitors. And it all started with a single email you didn't even have to write yourself.

  • Every customer gets asked, every time - no exceptions, no forgetting
  • Email arrives at the right time - not too soon, not too late
  • One tap takes them straight to your Google review page
  • Reviews accumulate month after month, compounding your ranking

Common questions

I already get work from word of mouth and Checkatrade. Why do I need this?

Word of mouth is great but it's uncontrollable - you can't predict it or scale it. Checkatrade works but you're paying per lead and competing on their platform, not building your own reputation. Google reviews compound differently: each one improves your ranking, stays there permanently, and works for you while you sleep. Five reviews a month is 60 a year. In two years you have 120 reviews and you're untouchable in local search. No other marketing channel does that.

What is a Google Business Profile and do I need one?

A Google Business Profile is the free listing that appears when someone searches for your business - or businesses like yours - on Google or Google Maps. It shows your name, phone number, opening hours, photos, and most importantly, your customer reviews. You do need one for Reviews Chaser to work. If you haven't set yours up yet, it takes about 10 minutes at business.google.com and is completely free.

Does it actually work?

Yes - because timing and simplicity matter. A personal email arriving a day after a completed job, from a business name the customer recognises, with one button to tap, converts far better than a QR code on a receipt or a verbal ask at the door. Most customers are happy to leave a review. They just need the nudge at the right moment.

Can I customise the email?

Yes. You write the message in your own voice - Reviews Chaser just handles the sending, timing, and tracking. You can personalise it by customer name and job reference too.

Will my customers think it's spam?

No - because the email comes from your business name, references their specific job, and is sent at a sensible time after completion. It reads like a genuine follow-up, not a bulk mail.

Do I need any technical knowledge?

None at all. If you can copy and paste a link and send an email, you can use Reviews Chaser. Setup takes a few minutes.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. No contracts, no lock-in. Cancel any time from your dashboard and you won't be charged again.

Is there a trial?

Yes - 14 days for just £1 on either plan. Your subscription then continues automatically at the plan price. Cancel any time from your dashboard.

Can multiple people in my business use one account?

Each subscription is for a single user. If you have multiple people sending review requests, each person needs their own subscription. Need multi-user access? Get in touch and we'll put together a plan that works for your team.

Your next review is already out there. Your customer just needs asking.

Every week without Reviews Chaser is another week your best customers forget to say something. Start your trial today for just £1 - up and running in minutes.
